Tough Day Against Strong Vikings Outfit
We got a stark reminder yesterday of how strong and how tough this competition is. All grades faced a strong and determined Vikings opposition who were certainly up for the challenge from our lads.
Our Colts started strongly but faded midway through the first half and were punished by a Vikings side with an amazing ability to counter and capitalise on any errors. The Colts boys came out in the 2nd half determined to gain the ascendency and showed in patches that they truly can be a good side. Once they learn to play 80 min rugby and have some belief, the results will come.
Vikings ran out winners 57-21.
In 2nd grade, our team fielding an exceptionally strong forward pack, dominated the early contacts and were first to score. At half time, the game was still up for grabs but a faster and fitter Vikings team ran away with it in the end. Final score 45-14.
3rd grade, playing away at Hall, went down 42 -12.
In 1st Grade, we always knew this was going to be a test for us. A couple of Colts players were making their first starts for the year in the top grade so the excitement and energy should have been high. Again, as with Colts and 2s, we started strongly, but errors, cheap penalties and poor decisions allowed Vikings to pile on points right through until half time. After the break, Easts showed some spirit and came out determined to prove a point. We sustained this effort for about 10 mins before a very good Vikings side ran away with the game.
We are looking to bounce back next week and demonstrate the renewed character of this Club when we defend the Bob Hitchcock Territory Shield against Queanbeyan. All grades are back at Griffith Oval, 3rd grade taking on Young. It will be great to have all our supporters, family and friends down at the ground to cheer for the red, white and blue!
