3rd's Go Down to Goulburn in Tight Contest

On a  perfect Winter day for Rugby, Easts 3rd grade ran on at Portsea Field, RMC, with a massive pack led by Joe Shirley and Scotty Geronomi. Unfortunately that advantage was soon lost when the Goulburn hooker came off injured and unopposed scrums were implemented. Roll out Plan B!

The 1st half was a see-saw affair with both sides exchanging tries. In the 30th minute, our centre, Benny Ng was yellow carded for an offside infringement. Led by honoury captain of the day, Tom Pilkington, the boys defended well with only 14 men to ensure we stayed in the contest.

The 2nd half was more of the same with both teams exchanging great tries in a very tight encounter. A yellow card to our lock, Joe Shirley, late in the 2nd half for a high tackle proved to be the difference with Goulburn running in 3 unanswered tries during that period. Notable efforts from Ethan Zisssler, James Middleton and Joe Shirley. Final score 43-27. 3rd Grade are back at home next weekend taking on Gunghalin while the Premier Division sides will take on Wests.
