Easts to Field a Womens Team in ACT in 2019 Comp
Eastern Suburbs Rugby Football Club are proud to announce that we will field a Womens Team in the ACT Comp in 2019. It will be the first time since 2012 that the Club has participated in this competition.
Club President, Ken Snell, reiterated the importance of this initiative at the recent Club Presentation Night. "One of the key strategic objectives that the Board set at the start of the year was to ensure that we re-establish ourselves as a Club that represents both genders, all ethic back grounds and all community groups. I am very proud that next season we will have a group of young women proudly wearing the red, white and blue of East Rugby Club which is in line with our strategy".
As an indication of the importance Easts are placing on the Women's Program, 2018 1st Grade Assistant Coach, Tevita Siulangapo has been appointed to the role as Head Coach of the Women's Team. Tevita, who has previous experience coaching women's rugby (and who's wife, Irene MacArthur is herself a player at elite level) is passionate about the development of the women's game. "the very same character traits that we have espoused as important for the development of young men are equally important for young women. Rugby teaches teamwork, resilience and leadership in an environment that it also encouraging fun and physical fitness. I think we have seen the emergence of Women's Rugby over the past decade and it is now a genuine option for young women who want to be part of an exciting growth opportunity in a physically demanding sport."
Although season 2019 is several months away, the Easts Women will make their first appearance at the Queanbeyan 7s on 13th October.
